Over the last couple of weeks, Google and Facebook have made some notable announcements in their efforts to help small and mid-sized businesses during the COVID-19 crisis.
Google Ads and Facebook Ads are both getting quite a bit of attention, and while there are many different pieces of information out there on each program, we wanted to summarize the high-points for Great Dental Websites clients (because we have the best clients, of course)!
Google Ads SMB Credits
With COVID-19 impacting small and medium-sized businesses around the world, Google will give upwards of $340 million in advertising credits to SMBs with Google Ads accounts active in the past year. This means that dental practices that have been active Google advertisers since January 1, 2019 will be eligible.
Google has stated that the ad credits should begin to show “throughout Q2,” but has not stated how much the exact ads credits will be. The credits can be used throughout the rest of 2020 on ads across the Google ecosystem, including Search, Display, and on any campaign types that you wish.
Key Things That You Need to Know:
Advertising Credit: Eligible clients will receive a one-time advertising credit applied directly to their Google Ads account. We will be monitoring the accounts of our active PPC clients and watching for these credits to be issued.
Eligibility: You must have an active Google Ads account and have run ads within the last 12 months. If eligible, you will be informed through a notification detailing your full credit amount. Clients of agencies/partners are eligible for the ad credit, which is good news for you and your practice!
Timing: Credits will be made available to qualifying clients in phases beginning in Q2 and can be used to offset future advertising within Google Ads until the end of 2020.
This is part of a larger commitment from Google to support SMBs, health organizations and governments, and health workers on the frontline of this global pandemic. We applaud Google for being proactive and launching the SMB Ad Credit program to assist our clients and their communities.
We will continue to research any developments as they arise, and will keep our clients updated as soon as we know more information.

Facebook SMB Grants Program
Facebook also announced that it will provide $100 million in cash grants and ad credits to 30,000 small business owners from all over the world who have been affected by COVID-19.
How can this program potentially help you as our client? It may be able to keep your workforce going strong, cover some of your operating costs, and help you connect with your community and patients via Facebook Ads and posts.
Eligibility:
To be eligible to apply a business must:
- Have between 2 and 50 employees
- Have been in business for over a year
- Have experienced challenges from COVID-19
- Be in or near a location where Facebook operates
The bulk of the grants will be dispersed through cash and ad credits for business services on the Facebook platform. Businesses are required to have an active Facebook, Instagram, or WhatsApp profile to apply for funding. New York City and Seattle are among the first cities to receive funds within the next week, with further areas being added as the program progresses.
Details are not as hashed out as the aforementioned Google program, but rest assured we are actively seeking detailed information on the Facebook SMB Grants Program as soon as it becomes available.
